STUDIO PILATES
If you have ever yearned for a stronger, leaner body, improved posture and toned muscles, then Pilates is the perfect exercise for you.
Studio Pilates is taught to a maximum of two people, which means that the instructor can deliver a highly individualised, whole body exercise method for any age and fitness level.
You will use larger pieces of equipment: the Cadillac, Reformer, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and Core Align. These pieces of equipment may sound daunting but the results speak for themselves and the programme is perfect if you are training the body for peak fitness or recovering from muscle and joint problems or surgery.
The studio equipment provides resistance to challenge your body using springs and levers to facilitate each move making them harder or easier depending on why you are training.
A growing number of athletes across the widest range of sports use Pilates for everything from injury prevention and recovery to building flexibility, suppleness, co-ordination and core strength. Advantages of regular Pilates exercises include:
Reduced risk of injury
Better and quicker recovery after injury or surgery
Improved flexibility, posture and movement quality
Increased core stability & strength
Increase CO2 intake through better breathing
Enhanced endurance
Clinical based Pilates such as the back care classes or the 1:1 session, designed for rehabilitation from injury, back pain or traumas such as operations and illness. Can be taught in either a mat or studio environment with specialist equipment. Each appointment focuses on a programme of rehabilitation specific to the individual’s needs and rate of recovery.
YOUR PILATES SESSIONS
NEW TO PILATES?
If you are a Pilates beginner we would recommend that you arrange a one to one session to learn the key skills necessary to get the most from your classes. This will cover breathing techniques, pelvic floor, and core control. You will also learn the basics of pelvic and spinal alignment.
PILATES SESSIONS
Each session will usually be 1 hour and will cover a variety of techniques and movements for different muscle groups. Depending on the class your are signed up to these will either be mat classes using basic equipment such as spiky balls, stretch bands, small weights and gym balls. Or studio based classes using larger equipment such as the reformers, trapeze table, combo chair and ladder barrel.
WHAT TO WEAR?
You can wear whatever clothing you like to a Pilates class, although we do recommend loose comfortable clothing such as shorts, tracksuits or leggings with a t-shirt. The fewer zips, buckles and buttons you have the better as they may get in the way.
