NUTRITION FOR HEALTH

Nutritional Therapy is a dietary approach to improve your health, energy and vitality by encouraging the body to heal and nourish itself. It is not a ‘quick fix’ to your health, however, with your commitment, very positive changes can be made and you will normally see real results in two or three months.

Eating healthy foods can also help rebalance your body’s systems and assist in the management of conditions such as arthritis, IBS, fatigue the menopause and PMS. Other conditions which benefit from nutritional therapy are:

SPORTS NUTRITION

Is designed to improve althetic performance and recovery enabling you to reach you full sporting potential. Idelaly suited to those participating in strength or edurance sports such as gym training, running, cycling or swimming.

1. Fuelling
Up to 30 min before activity with easily absorbed carbohydrates.
2. Re-fuelling
While doing your sports this crucial as your muscles are most receptive to restocking.
3. Repair
Within 1½ to 2 hours after finishing taking in high quality protein to repair your muscles.
4. Recovery
Take in antioxidants to help with ‘lactic acid removal’ and muscle-fibril degredation. The items that cause soreness, stiffness and fatigue.

Learn how to optimise energy levels, what the right foods are to eat for the sport you are doing and how balance your glycemic Index (understand the difference between good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates).

MAKING AN APPOINTMENT AT DRAGONFLY CLINIC

Before your first consultation you should complete a food diary and nutrition questionnaire. Simply download these from our website. You will need to allow 3 days prior to your appointment to complete the food dairy.

CONSULTATION

The first consultation lasts 1 ¼ hours, during which a full case history is taken and your food diary is gone through. Initial recommendations will be given, which usually entail dietary changes. These may also include nutritional supplements if it is felt these would be beneficial.

TREATMENT

Your following consultations will last 45 minutes. In each session, your progress and symptom changes are checked and further dietary advice and/or supplements may be given. If you are recommended specific health tests these will be fully discussed with you during the consultation. Possible tests include hormonal-panel tests, stool samples, food allergy / intolerance tests, cardiovascular profile, thyroid testing, osteoporosis referral checks and adrenal tests.

CASE HISTORY

If you have information relevant to your health such as previous test results or referral letters please bring these with you to your appointment as this will also maximise the use of your time with us.
